We played a lot of pinochle. Taz fell in love with it during our time in Oregon and so refreshed Tanner's skills and memory of it and enjoyed several games a day.
Taz and I were always partners and Garry and Tanner. Taz and I got 1000 aces once and boy howdy was he pleased with himself!
Taz was able to hang out with his friends during the summer. He spent a day at Sierra's.
On the day he turned 15, his friends Courtney and Paige brought him a plate of cookies. He was thrilled. I was reading some Huck Finn to him at the time and he saw a car drive up and realized it was them and made a beeline for the bathroom to check his appearance before he answered the door! I made him homemade raspberry ice cream on his birthday and made ribs for dinner. He got to take an hour and a half off from band camp to have his bday dinner, but then he had to go to camp. He got a video game and a new Kendama.
Towards the end of August, two weeks before school started, Band Camp began. Taz had practices 8-12 and 4-9 every day. Good thing he loves marching band! The kids really put a lot of time into it!
Taz went up to BYU for a week in August and attended volleyball camp. He roomed with Corbin Imlay and they had a great time. Tanner, Cynjyn, Garry and I went up to pick them up the day before it was over and we had some fun times around campus.
I crocheted a hat in the car on the way to and from Provo.
Taz took the setters clinic and became the setter for his team. He loved it and was pretty good at it. He's going to try out for setter in the spring.
His "coach" was Ben Patch. He was freshman of the year and he's 6'8" and Taz loved him!
On the last day they do an awards ceremony and give out three awards: most improved, hardest worker and VIP. Taz got the hardest worker award! We were proud of him because he has always taken volleyball seriously and he does work super hard at it, so it was nice that he was rewarded for his efforts.
Taz had a little birthday party the weekend before school started because we had stuff going on around his actual birthday. It was on a Saturday night. He invited Lawson, Ryan, Andrew, Michael, Sierra, Alexis, Courtney and Paige. Shae couldn't come. It was a really fun night. At the end of the night, Andrew commented to me that it was the most fun party he'd been to and all the games were super fun! This is what we did: We gave everyone a famous name on their back and they had to guess who they were. Taz was Scooby Doo and he had a hard time guessing who he was. After that, we played the DO-DO game. I had written a bunch of song titles on 3x5 note cards and they divided up into teams. One person started out and I showed them a song title and they could only sing it using Do, when another team member guessed the song they would come up and do the next song. It was funny and everyone liked it.
We played a candy game after that. Everyone had a paper sack and we spread candy bars and candy out on the ottoman. We went around the circle and everyone chose one candy and put it in their bag, then we went back around the circle and everyone chose another one. We then had everyone pass the dice around. If a 1 or 4 was rolled, nothing happened. If a 2 was rolled, that person got to steal a candy from someone. But they had to name the correct candy and the correct person in order to get it. If a 3 was rolled, they got to choose an extra candy from the ottoman and add it to their sack. If a 6 was rolled, everyone passed their bag to the left. It was really fun and every one was groaning when a 6 was rolled and they were all wanting their original bags. We let them play for 10 min. then they had 30 seconds at the end to trade with people. Everyone went home with candy.
We then paired up the boys and girls and played Norwegian nosedive and some teams really rocked and some weren't so successful. We had just randomly drawn partners. Cynjyn had to play since we had one less girl. Taz was with Alexis and they totally won the game. They were awesome.
Our last game was a stick game. We had a PVC pole cut for each person. They formed a circle and then there was one person in the middle that was the caller. Cynjyn started as the caller. She would say left or right and the group would move which ever way she called, but they would let go of their pole and have to grab the pole either to their right or left depending which was called. If you dropped your stick, you were out and became the caller. We played it a several times and the kids got hot and sweaty and very competitive.
After the games, we had some peanut butter ice cream pie for his celebration and then everyone went swimming. The last guest left around midnight. It was a great night for him!
We did some projects in August. Cynjyn started working on her Personal Progress value. She decided to make a scripture tote.
Taz made some garlic knots for dinner one night.
We had eye doctor and dentist and ortho appointments and Cynjyn was reading Divergent during them all.
Time was spent with friends...Becca now that they had some time.
One Friday, Cynjyn went to a One Direction concert with Alexa. They had got tickets for them in February when it was Alexa's birthday, but the concert wasn't until this month. So, Cynjyn went to Alexa's house and they made a poster to take to the concert. They had such a good time and sang to every song and really loved their evening. It was C's first concert!
Taz attended Alexis Hill's 15th birthday party sock hop and dressed up 50's style. Tanner did his hair.
And he did a Fonzie pose just for Krissy!
The boys spent a last weekend here and had a poker game to decide which movie to go to.
Taz and Cynjyn went on a YM/YW temple trip on a Friday morning.
Garry has had such a hard time with the pool in this house. It just doesn't stay clean. There is always an algae build up. One day the three of us were so ht that we jumped in the pool and just started scrubbing the algae. It didn't help much, but hopefully, we can get this pool figured out so that we can use it more next summer!
We found a website online where you could order glasses much cheaper than in a local office. We we all ordered new glasses since we had just had eye appointments.
Tanner was a big help before he left for school. He would refill our water bottles,
And I had a day where I bought a ton of meat and he helped me make meatballs and meatloafs and other freezer stuff to stalk up on for fall.
Garry and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary in August. We didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I made him take me out to dinner where it all began...Taco Bell.
We also emptied our freezer of some frozen berries and made some jam one morning.
C and I are loving the flower's we made for our hair. This was after church one Sunday.
We also got a game of Hand and Foot in with Talon and Mikel one Sunday.
I looked up on Youtube how to cut side swept bangs and gave a hair cut to C. She'd been wanting them.
One day we had the elders over for dinner and Tanner made cream puffs for the dessert, but we burned the first batch so he had to make them again...he wasn't happy!!
More projects: Cakes with fondant for Tanner and Cynjyn and I helped Taz make a vinyl sign for his room
Tanner ended up doing 2.
And this is C's final cake.
Tanner's second one with no fondant, he literally did it in about 2 business.
Garry put Taz's sign up while he was at band camp.
I made some primary games...this ice cream punch board.
Garry's company had their annual bowling night. Taz had band camp, but C and T went. They had bad attitudes and didn't want to bowl, but they were at a lane with two little boys who adored them both and they ended up having a great time. C and I got our arm's painted instead of faces.
The boys came over for one last sleepover and did their Algebra 2 packet that was due the first day of school.
C organized her back to school supplies.
T and G got a double run in one of our Pinochle games which was crazy because earlier that day Taz and I got 1000 aces again.
The Sunday before school found Taz writing his AP history paper due Monday.
And Garry gave father's blessings to C
and T the night before school
Cynjyn's first day of school as a 7th grader.
Talon claims C doesn't like him and was shocked when he came over on the first day and she grabbed him and hugged him. He wouldn't let her let go until I got a picture!
Taz's first day as a 10th grader. I forgot to take one in the morning, so this is after school when he'd already changed into his cross country practice clothes.
Talon missed us during the summer and spent a lot more time here. They always love to play a little basketball.
Tanner LOVED doing NOTHING while the kids had homework. The joys of not starting college until later in the year.
Taz is famished after CC practice, so we decided to try Taco Bell's happy hour menu.
And boy did it rain a lot this month. We all loved it but it was so humid most days.
Tanner got an early bday present, a laptop to take with him to college.
