COVID book club

I was supposed to host book club in March. When we were told to socially isolate, we postponed book club indefinatly. With the restrictions somewhat lifted, we decided to do Book Club at my house. The book was The Island of Sea Women. It is about Korean women divers on Jeju Island in Korea. I had Garry and Tanner set up the room so we could be 6 feet apart.  We did good about staying apart until it came time to eat. I had Taz cook us a Korean feast, Samgyupsal (Pork belly) and Korean Fried Rice and Kimchi jiigae. Once we started eating, everyone just flocked together and sat at the table, but that was fine, it was nice to see everyone! Food was great and the book was too!

Valentines Day and Coed bookclub

I enjoy the holidays and I enjoy giving stuff to my loved ones on Valentine's Day. This year was no different. I got everyone a little something. We always try to have a coed book club once a year. We usually have it at our house since Garry will always read the book and house can accommodate everyone. This year we read Red Rising. I hadn't finished the book before book club, but we did theme the food after the book. We served sliders and hot Cheetos and rolls with cinnamon butter they all had to do with food in the book, except the hot Cheetos, I chose them because they were hot and red and the book takes place on Mars.  We invited others to bring "red" food. and so we had a good spread and a good time.

Ready Player One Book Club

January 26, 2018

January was my turn to host our book club.  Once a year we like to do a coed book club and pick a book we think our husbands will like.  This year, we picked Ready Player One.  The movie is coming out in March and we like to go to the movies of the books we read with our husbands. Usually they can be deemed "chick flicks" and we drag our hubbies to dinner and the movie, but his one we will all enjoy!  The book has a ton of 80's references and so we were the perfect ones to host it.  Unfortunately, I had read the book over a year ago, but Garry had just finished it in December, so it was fresh in his head.  He enjoyed gathering the decor from the 80's. A lot of it was D and D related and he had some of the modules and games mentioned in the book. We bought and played Monty Python and the Holy Grail and War Games with the sound off throughout book club.  We also bought a retro Atari game system to have one of the video games going on.  We had given away our old Atari a few years ago! Garry made a miniature Pac Man video game. We buried a guitar in stone and had some signs on the front door.  Cereal was mentioned a lot, specific kinds in the book, so we had a cereal bar and a DIY pizza bar since they order a lot of pizza in the book.  It was a fun night and as usual, just as fun preparing for it as hosting it.
