THE big event of May!

May was a monumental event for us. Cynjyn graduated from High School. It is very strange to think that I no longer have any kids in the public school system.  We have had a child in the system continuously for the past 25 years. We have been very involved and have loved supporting each child in their academics and activities. It will be strange to not be so regimented.  Silverado did things a little different this year. They changed their robes to renting them and they got a little fancy. Because of this, the kids had to return them right after the ceremony before they got outside for pictures, so they had a grad walk at Silverado a week or so before school got out and they could take photos and such there. They also cut band and choir from the graduation ceremony and we were not happy about that. I wrote a protest email to the principle and a few other parents protested, but it still happened. Other than that...she graduated and Grandpa, Grandma, Ky and her boys were able to come down for it.
The final band banquet was at the beginning of May. Cynjyn got her cords and letter. She had an awards assembly also earlier and got the honors medallion and she had cords from dance. She also wore Taz's engineering cords because...you can never have too many cords!

Graduation Walk day at Silverado:

I wanted to go all out with decorations to honor our graduate, so I made my dining room table a display of Cynjyn. I loved doing it and loved how it turned out! We also made the obligatory graduation shirts. It was quite an ordeal because of not getting my Silhouette to print out properly and choosing a quote with too many words and putting stuff on the shirt backwards etc. but we finally got them done a little after midnight the day before. We got so many compliments and oohs and ahhs as we walked into UNLV with them on! I had Lindsay make a cake...one layer red velvet and the other white chocolate raspberry. It was fun to have it. After graduation, she chose Buffalo Wild Wings to go to for dinner. We tried Outback but they were booked until 8pm.  We came back and had cake and went for a night swim. It was a fun day. Getting out of the parking lot is always a concern, but since we couldn't take photos after the ceremony, as soon as they called Cynjyn to get her diploma, we left and there was not traffic at all, so I guess that's one good thing about the rented gowns.
