Memorial Day camping at Bear Lake California

We were able to go on our annual Memorial Day camping trip this year. Sadly, our group is dwindling and it was us, Shafers and Hills.  The Hills weren't coming, but at the last minute their calendar opened up, so we shared a campsite with them.  I am always amazed that Garry can fit everything into the Suburban and equally amazed that we always have so much stuff for three days!
We got there and started setting up the tents.
Cynjyn brought Kaela along this year and the two of them slept in their own 2 man tent.

Then came our EZ up.
Food was unloaded, table cloth on and we are ready to eat lunch!
We had stopped at a local grocer on the way up and bought some cherries.  They were delicious and we enjoyed them for lunch.  Then we all tried to tie a knot in the stem...Cynjyn succeeded.
Work is done, so a little relaxing was called for.

I always love our little kitchen area.
I made everyone vote and they selected foil dinner's for dinner.
They were all customized and everyone loved them.
We bought some wood
and got a fire going.  Without Taz here, Cynjyn became the designated fire builder.

Shafers brought their bikes and Tyler had a little part not working, so Garry fixed it!
As the evening wore on, more friends joined us at our campfire.

We roasted S'mores and Starbursts

and had lively conversation as it got dark.  We played a few games too.
Up and at it for breakfast the next morning.  Everyone loves a good breakfast when we're camping.
These two were so happy to be awake for the day!!
The only bummer thing about the campsite was the toilets (glorified outhouse kind) weren't working so they brought in Port a Potties...they were disgusting and I hiked up to the top of the campsite almost all the time to use the one restroom that was working...totally worth it!
We went into the town and they had a little visitor center/museum that we had fun at.

Here's Kaela, Cynjyn, Camryn, Seth, Audrey, Tyler and Madeline.
We hiked from this center to the lake, now I say hike liberally, it was a niced paved path, but they did have a tunnel under the highway so we didn't have to deal with crossing a busy road.
This was our little group: Seth, Dave, Jen, Garry, me, Cynjyn, Tanner, Kaela, Audrey, Camryn, Andrea and Tyler.  Jay and Madeline were going at a slower 4 year old pace and were a little behind us.

The lake was pretty big,

We didn't do much but toss some rocks in and take photos.
But I did enlist my 7+ portrait mode to take some photos.

And the Panorama

This little display was in the center of town.  It was so wrong to see the "baby" or smallest deer with antlers!!
A lot of card games were played back at camp that afternoon/evening.

The Hills had suggested having a big group dinner of Carne Asada.  They brought a ton
Dave grilled it up.
Brought out the rest of the food,

And had a yummy dinner altogether.  I believe we will do that more often from now on.

More campfire madness and game playing rounded out the day.

We always have such an enjoyable time on our annual camp outs with friends.  All the work is totally worth it as we look back on the fond memories made.
