Killers and Thrillers Epic Escape House

So, she turned 17 and we decided to go epic and turn our house into an entire escape house! We started planning in November.  We decided on the theme Thrillers and Killers.  Cynjyn is a little obsessed with serial killers and wanted that to be the theme, but we compromised on famous movie killers...it was easier for ordering props and we didn't want to freak the guests out too much.  We decided on a Freddy Kruger room, a Jigsaw room, a Jason room, a Michael Myers room and the pool area being a Pennywise the Dancing Clown from IT room.  Garry went to work fabricating and we ordered masks and stuff off Ebay and Amazon.
Tanner worked on a machete puzzle for the Jason room.

We decided to torture our big bears for the Jigsaw room.

The Pennywise mask wasn't quite the real thing, the generic was cheaper, but it was kind of blue, so we had Cynjyn paint it white.
We set up the loft for Jigsaw's room and we set up a crime scene.  We took a photo from three different angles and they had to figure out what was different in the actual crime scene from the photos.

It turned out to be super hard for everyone. They didn't notice the clock in the window having three different times on it and they didn't notice that the arm cuff on the bear was different (The clue was under the cuff)

This Jigsaw that Garry made was so spooky.  He was freaky.  We made him, but we were afraid to go into Taz's room where we kept him because he just followed us everywhere with his eyes.  Cynjyn hadn't seen him and one morning she was up early for seminary and needed something out of Taz's room, I knew he was in there and told her to go ahead and go in and get what she needed, she opened the door and screamed because he was right there!

Taz's room was the Freddy room.  We started them off there. The room was dark and they were chained together. We had a TV and it started a video with the rules on it.  They had to find a black light flashlight and shine it on these dream quotes we put on the wall.  It gave a code to unlock a box which was under the bed. In the box were materials to pick the lock on the door and let them out.
We put a victim in the bed all slashed up just to freak them out.
We had Tanner hiding in the closet dressed as Freddy to pop out and scare them when they went into it.  He was also there to give them clues if they needed them.
Garry made a fake door they had to find a combo for in the Jigsaw room to get downstairs.
We cut up a bunch of magazines to make the invite and put some fake bloody finger prints on it, strategically placed of course to hide an embedded clue.
The Jason room had machetes hidden around in it and when they found them and laid them out on the floor in a particular order, it revealed 4 digital numbers that was the combo to the second fake door Garry made going from the living room to the kitchen.

We had another victim on the floor with a machete in his back.

We had Andrew come over on the night of the party and we dressed him up to look like Jason.  We stuffed him with paper and put the mask on him and  he sat super still.  Cynjyn had mentioned that she wanted a pop out.  We figured we had enough dummies in the previous rooms that everyone would think he was another dummy.

Cynjyn just happened to be the one to walk right up to him and try to take the machete, when she did, he grabbed at her and it totally freaked her out! She screamed and hit him on the head with the machete! It was epic!

Once they got into the kitchen, it was the Michael Myer's room.  We had him sitting on the couch, but the main part of the room was the kitchen counter.

We had "Halloween" candy spread out some with razor blades and pins stuck in it on certain letters.  If they put them in order and uscrambled them, they spelled some words leading to more clues.

We had syringes filled to certain levels and if you matched the colors and alphabetized the "poisons" in them, it gave a number code to get out the back door into the pool area.

Outside was our IT room. We had Pennywise here:

We had red balloons in the pool and a tool box anchored to one of them that they had to get out of the pool and unlock.

We had some Pennies hidden (In green bag on lizard's foot)
and some owls (In the tree), later we moved everything to the table because it was too hard for them to find everything.
We had five photos of Cynjyn dancing.

When they put it all together it was "Penny", "wise" the "dancing", "clown". These clues led them back inside to the computer which had been counting down from 60 minutes, when they entered the code, it gave them the password to get the key to the front door.

We had ordered caution tape to keep the people out of areas where we didn't want them to go.

I hired Lindsay to make her a "killer" cake.  I had her close her eyes and surprised her with it.

Needless to say, she loved it!
And of course, it was red velvet!
So, we had Andrew, Marcus, Charlie and Michael come over the Wednesday before the party to play test it.  Amelia, Reed and Will did it with them. It was way to hard, so we ended up having to really funnel it in and make the clues more obvious.  Then this was the night of the party, Trevor, Vanessa, Grady, Emma, Gus, Kaela, Cynjyn and Eric came. Sean came late and joined us at the Jigsaw room.

They made it out with 17 min to spare and a lot of clues and direction.

After the escape, they played the stick game and couch of power.

Since we put all that work into it, we invited our friend group over to go through it the next weekend.  Hill's, Shafer's, Stanley's and Thatcher's barely made it out with two minutes to spare.

We enjoyed every minute of this, the prepping the planning, the making, they doing. It was truly a fun epic birthday!
