Mt Charleston

January 2, 2018:

Talon and Mikel wanted to get us tickets to a show or something like that for Christmas.  So I thought I'd like to go to Terry Fator.  So I told them that's what we wanted.  Then I got to thinking that we have always received coupons for a "Retreat at Mt Charleston Resort" in the mail and we've wanted to try it for years, but have just never got around to it.  So I changed my mind and told him that's what we wanted.  So that's what we got. It was an overnight stay with dinner at their in lodge restaurant and breakfast included.  He booked it for us for January 2.  We ended up with a room on the third floor and a balcony view.  The balcony was scary and made of wood planks that were slats that you could see through.  But we took some balcony selfies of our great view of the desert mountains.  My vision when we first heard about this was a snowy escape to the mountains...not so much, it was colder, but no snow or green to be seen.

Our dinner was delicious.  We could choose anything from their menu.  We chose the Rib Eye steak with mixed veggies and Garry had rice pilaf and I had mashed potatoes.  We should have taken a picture of our breakfast too, it was delicious. It was called a mountain skillet and it was basically eggs, hashbrowns and veggies all mixed together on a huge plate.  Yummy!  We went exploring outside and found a little sitting area with a swing overlooking the gulch and we enjoyed that.

Inside the lodge was very homey and cabin like. It had a huge fireplace and some stuffed animals and cabiny like decor.  The lodge itself was very old and did not have elevators, so we packed our bags up the three flights of stairs, but it was overall a nice stay for the price ($99).  There were a lot of families there, I don't know why? There was no snow or much to do. We did see a few trails so maybe they go there to hike?
