Yesterday was the last day of school. If I had a music box on my blog it would be playin' some Alice Cooper "Schools Out for Summer". Now this is the day I dreamed of as a kid, the last day, three months off!! This is what every kid should anticipate. Poopoo on those year round schools!! This was the first year all my kids have been done with school at the same time. Taz and Cynjyn have been marking off the calendar for a month now. Anyway, yesterday was the end of school awards assemble for Taz and Cynjyn. They go to two different schools that are right next to each other. Cynjyn attends Louis Wiener Elementary school which has K-2 grade. Taz attends Charlotte Hill which has 3-5 graders. Cynjyn's assembly was at 10:30, Taz's at 10:45. There was no way I could be two places at once, so Garry took the day off. He went to Cynjyn's assemble because he is faster than me and he could quickly run over to Taz's school and catch the end of his assembly. I went to Taz's. Cynjyn got Straight A honor roll and Straight A's all year!! Her teacher also gave her the most Imaginative Writer award from her class. Cynjyn works very hard and school comes easy to her. We are so proud of her diligence and hard work. Taz got Straight A honor roll and Straight A's all year too. He had a three B's and 2 A's on his progress report a few weeks ago and we encouraged him to bring those up to A's and he worked hard and did. HE was proud of himself and we are proud of him too. All 5th graders do a "Great American" project. It is optional. These are the requirements to receive it: Write and punctuate and correctly spell all words in the Pledge of Allegience, Say or sing the first verse of "The Star Spangled Banner", Recite from memory the preamble to the Declaration of Independence, Recite from memory the Gettysburg Address, Recite from memory the 50 states and capitols, Recite from memory the Presidents in order of their presidencies. Taz made the goal at the beginning of school last September to go for this. He accomplished it!! The 5th graders could do any or all of the six and they got little tokens for completing each one, like a flag, a sticker, a pencil etc. But if they did all six, they got a trophy at the assembly. There are six 5th grade classes at Taz's school. 14 kids accomplished the goal and got all 6, Taz being one of them. He was so proud and we were too. It was tough! He passed the presidents, his last one, on the last day of eligibility and his teacher let him do it twice because he messed up the first time!! Way to go Taz and Cynjyn!!
